Sunflower

SUNFLOWER

Tiny seed, filled with knowledge

Warmed by earth, and sunshine rays

Fit to burst, to live its life

Not for years, but only days.

Breaking surface, feel the warmth

Soft surroundings, darkened lair

Urge to stretch is very strong

Crack the shell and breath the air

Winding upwards searching light,

Pushing through the moistened earth

Strength is building, feel the pulse

Breaking out to garden turf.

Sudden heat from sunshine rays

Beating down on new born leaves

Raising heavy head of seedlings

lifting, stacking, man retrieves.

Growing taller day by day

strong and proud, towards the sun

unfolding yellow petals fine

Sunflowers work is nearly done

Filled with tiny seeds of knowledge

shakes its head to spread the load

tumbling down towards the earth

Sunflower seeds in growing mode.

Happy sunflower, smiley face

Seeds to feed both birds and mice

Now feels week and starts to wither

Sunflowers life has paid its price.
